Ultralight trekking pole tent
In the world of ultralight Backpackers, every gram counts. For them, this isn’t just an attitude but a way of life, only the essential equipment will fit into their hiking backpack.
Pantanal is a tent that stands on trekking poles, making it light weight at just 872 grams, yet spacious inside. Pantanal is made of innovative fabrics that are resistant to the elements. Alongside its light weight nature, this design also allows for connection between two tents to create a shared space between hikers.
When folded the tent is the size of a 1.5 liter bottle
The tent has two adjacent doors allows. This configuration provides a sweeping 180-degree panoramic view. Now, when we discover an appealing camping spot, both entrances can capitalize on the stunning scenery.

Portable Welding Set
As part of the class, the focus was on designing for happiness.
I started by exploring a world and market I'm already familiar with: welding.
Every portable welder available in the market looked nearly identical — like a square block.
Furthermore, everything in the market wasn't optimized to provide welders with the best welding experience.
Each component of this welding machine was meticulously designed to deliver an enjoyable and memorable experience — from its design and shape to its materials.
The simple handle helps carry the machine behind the back from the car to the worksite.
Me at my army service repairing a damaged unit of the Iron Dome.
The top shape of the welder resembles a head, allows the helmet to be tightened and held.
Attachments of the welding handle and the ground clamp to the machine's body.
The top roller is for locking the electrode and the bottom roller is for controlling the amperage without the need to go back to the machine to do so.
Controlling the amperage can of course be done from the machine itself, and viewed on the analog display.
Turning on and off is done with a small button.
The cables are wrapped around the machine, the groove allows the cables to do so without bending.
In this user scenario the USB-C power output integrates into the left inside jacket pocket.
As part of our Studio Design Class we were assigned to design a wearable object. I enjoy extreme hiking so I chose to design an outfit that accommodates the needs of hikers for sustained periods away from modern conveniences. One of the main features of this outfit was the generation of electricity from renewable energy sources. The electricity is used to charge one or more portable power banks, that can charge GPS units, satellite communicators, flashlight, watch, smart phone, etc.
1) Solar Cells - Arrays of interconnected, flexible solar cells create electricity from sunlight. When the hiker is not wearing the jacket it can still collect electricity to charge a portable power bank while hanging from a tree, for example.
2) Twistron Harvesters - As the jacket moves either due to motion of the hiker or by wind when hanging, internal wires made of carbon nanotubes can generate electricity.
3) Power Felt - This is a fabric that uses body heat to create electricity.
Electricity generated from these three technologies is output via a USB-C socket integrated into a jacket pocket. The output of the jacket is sufficient to charge a power bank with a 3000mAh battery in 9:30 minutes.

Electricity generated by the removable hoodie connects into the distributed power of the jacket via connections integrated to the detachable zipper.
Rock Cairns Inspired Oil Heater
The goal of this project was to design a new shape for a space heater while integrating one additional feature to the product.
Heating pillows (shown in forest green) are an added feature. These removable pillows are weighted, like weighted blankets, and can be hugged and held in order to provide the user a sense of relaxation and calm.
Inspiration
On the bottom of the concrete base are balls clamped in place like the point of a ballpoint pen so the heater can be easily moved in all directions with ease.

Some areas of the jacket must be free of solar cells so they do not interfere with the backpack straps.
Electricity Generating Jacket
This assignment was to design an innovative thermometer. I chose to design a thermometer specifically for use by extreme hikers. The design illustrated here incorporates a thermometer with a sensor that folds into a protective shell to shield it from shocks or falls. The thermal sensing unit folds into the shell like a switchblade knife. It is held in place by magnets. The body temperature is read with an LED screen mounted inside the sensing unit and visible through a thin plastic enclosure. The thermometer has a red cross embossed on the body to indicate that it is a medical tool and makes it easier to find.
